Marine Ingredients Industry part of the Ocean Stewardship Initiative discussions under the Sustainable Markets Initiative
2026.3.20
From 10-12 March 2026, MID’s Managing Director, Anne Mette Bæk, was formally invited to participate in a meeting with H.M. King Charles III and a roundtable session on the Ocean Stewardship Initiative (OSI) under the Sustainable Markets Initiative (SMI), an initiative founded by the King. The meeting brought together senior representatives from across the seafood value chain and other stakeholders engaged in sustainable ocean governance.
The Sustainable Markets Initiative aims to accelerate the transition towards a more sustainable global economy. Its vision is a sustainable future for all, and its mission is to serve as the world’s ‘go-to’ private sector organisation for sustainable markets, bringing together business leaders to help translate global sustainability commitments into practical action.
Within the SMI, the Ocean Stewardship Initiative aims to translate global commitments on ocean sustainability into concrete and actionable solutions, bringing together industry leaders, policymakers and other stakeholders.
Participants included senior industry representatives from Norway, Iceland, the Faroe Islands, the EU and the United Kingdom across the fishing, aquaculture and marine ingredients sectors, as well as industry organisations and other stakeholders engaged in the Sustainable Markets Initiative.
MID welcomes the opportunity to contribute to these discussions and to provide perspectives from the European marine ingredients sector, which plays a key role in the sustainable seafood value chain.
